Located on the west side of the Los Angeles River next to the neighborhood of Boyle Heights, the Los Angeles 6th Street Bridge is one of American’s most famous bridges,. Built in 1932 and spanning nearly 3,500 feet, it has been used in hundreds of movies, videos and TV Commercials. Sadly, the very building materials used to build the bridge have also caused the need to replace it. Rare chemical reaction in the cement supports were found to be in need of replacement. The new bridge will cost over $488 million dollars with an added viaduct. Most of the replacement costs are funded by the Federal Highway Transportation Administration and the California Department of Transportation.. along with some city funds.
